About Us

Our Evolution

The vast majority of seafood harvested globally is harvested using ethical labor practices that are in line with international labour standards and protocols, both legal and voluntary, to ensure proper treatment of crews. Recognizing the need to provide additional assurance to seafood buyers, the seafood community aimed to create a program similar to those that exist for third-party certifiers of food safety. With that in mind, a diverse range of stakeholders and technical experts came together to craft the FISH Standard.

Standards Oversight Committee

The Standards Oversight Committee (SOC) reports to the Board of Directors. The SOC developed and updates the Standard that audits seafood harvesters who voluntarily apply for the review process. The SOC ensures the Standard is consistent with the major international agreements on labor and in a manner consistent with ISO (International Organization for Standardization) requirements. The SOC is made up of individuals with experiences in seafood harvesting and processing, the academic community, and labour non-profit organisations.
